Both the DMC and the WSU are downplaying the loss of accreditation for the neurosurgery training program between the two. The DMC acknowledged the center was disappointed to learn the accreditation council for graduate medical education pulled certification -- effective in June -- but it pointed out it was granted institutional accreditation for its general medicine education program. The neurosurgery residency program at the Detroit Medical Center belongs solely to the DMC, reads a statement from WSU. The Wayne State name is listed on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education website because of a prior teaching affiliation agreement.
