Southgate man charged in connection with deadly attack on US Capitol
SOUTHGATE, Mich. โ The FBI had asked for tips from people to help identify those involved in the deadly Jan. 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol Building. Anthony Williams, a man from Southgate, was identified and reported. Police said he likely deleted photos and videos from his Facebook page, but authorities were able to get copies anyway. The tipster even supplied screenshots from Williamโs Facebook page. The FBI said photos of Williams inside the Capitol Building were deleted and perhaps Williams thought he was in the clear, but investigators were able to retrieve the deleted photos and videos.
Suspect in hit-and-run that killed pregnant Southgate mother given $2M bond
SOUTHGATE, Mich. โ Raymond John Alkewich, 31, is accused of killing a pregnant Southgate mother in a hit-and-run incident Saturday. He was arraigned Tuesday and was charged with failure to stop at scene of an accident resulting in death. Her family knows the arraignment wonโt bring her back, but theyโre hoping itโs a step in the right direction for the grieving family. Itโs believed that over the weekend, Alkewich ran a light and struck Strother, who was crossing the street, and then kept on driving. The court is going to assess a $2 million bond,โ said Judge Elisabeth Mullins.
Candlelight vigil held for pregnant woman killed in Southgate hit-and-run
SOUTHGATE, Mich. โ A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night to remember 35-year-old Jessica Strother, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Southgate. โI tried to reach and I couldnโt get her in time and she just got hit. Itโs unclear what led to the accident taking place but Johnson said the driver of the vehicle didnโt even try to stop. AdA vigil was held in the exact same place where Jessica was killed, near the intersection of Fort and Superior streets. I didnโt think that it even happened.

But itโs the illegal gun sales in Metro Detroit that are grabbing the attention of ATF agents. Keith Krolczyk is an assistant special agent in charge of ATF Detroit. โThere is no shortage of gun violence in Detroit,โ Krolczyk said. AdEdwards first got the attention of agents when, according to court documents, he started texting with James Clark from Southgate. Court documents revealed that Clarkโs girlfriend would use a Facebook account to post images and short videos to her account showing the different guns for sale.

The Wayne County Public Health Division announced Wednesday a total of five cases of the coronavirus were linked to the wedding reception held July 18 at the banquet hall. DETAILS: Southgate banquet hall listed as COVID-19 exposure siteAs of Wednesday, there were five women ranging in age from 22 to 55 who attended the wedding on July 18. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 81,621 as of Friday, including 6,199 deaths, state officials report. SOUTHGATE, Mich. โ The Wayne County Public Health Division announced Wednesday it has confirmed a total of five cases of COVID-19 linked to a wedding reception held on Saturday, July 18, at Crystal Gardens Banquet Hall in Southgate. More people may have been at risk of contracting and exposing others to COVID-19 as more than 100 people were in attendance for the indoor reception, according to Wayne County health officials. Attendees of the reception at the Crystal Gardens are encouraged to call the Wayne County Health Division at 734-727-7078 to report their contacts, get tested by a healthcare provider as soon as possible, and self-quarantine at home as directed. The confirmed positive individuals have been instructed to self-isolate until cleared by public health in accordance with CDC guidance, health officials said. โThe safety and protection of Wayne County residents is our top priority,โ said Carol Austerberry, Wayne County Health Officer.

Sunday weather creates trouble on Metro Detroit roads
DETROIT - Nearly 30,000 people lost power in Metro Detroit after intense rain and winds swept through the area Sunday. Northbound I-75 at Allen Road was closed for hours, as were the southbound lanes on the Lodge Freeway. Several collisions occurred, including a fatal crash in Harper Woods. Police said the driver in that crash was going too fast for the road conditions and lost control of the vehicle. Mother accused of driving drunk with children in car when she crashed into ditch at Camp Dearborn
MILFORD, Mich. - A Southgate mother is accused of having a blood alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit when she crashed her car into a ditch last month at Camp Dearborn in Milford. Police said the woman's two young boys were also in the car. Camp employees said the woman drove into the park without stopping at the gate and then landed in a ditch. We're just going to check to see if you're OK," an officer on the scene said. The 30-year-old mother is facing charges of child endangerment and operating while intoxicated.

Doorbell cam captures video of driver smashing into parked car, driving away in Southgate
SOUTHGATE, Mich. โ A doorbell camera captured video of a driver smashing into a parked car and continuing down the road in Southgate. Video shows the vehicle crashing into a car parked on the side of the road. The driver continued to travel down the road before vanishing from view, the video shows. You can watch the video above. Police arrested the driver two hours after the crash, the homeowner said.
