Nursing homes have to publicly disclose their vaccination rates for flu and pneumonia, but theres no similar mandate for COVID-19 shots. Nursing homes have been required since last May to regularly report cases and deaths among residents and staff to the government. Nursing homes are again allowing loved ones to visit, and hugs are included. The main nursing home industry trade group, the American Health Care Association, says it supports disclosure of vaccination data. Wyden and Crapo said current government policy that encourages nursing homes to voluntarily report vaccination data to the government has only led to “limited participation by the industry.”The government should require nursing homes to break down vaccination data by race and ethnicity, given disparities in vaccine acceptance.

CANTON – A 14-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Feb. 21 death of Cynthia Mosby. According to authorities, Mosby, 65, was the girl’s grandmother and had custody of the teen. The father of the suspect, whose mother was killed, said he’s still trying to wrap his head around the situation. Mosby’s death shocked the quiet Canton neighborhood, where she lived for more than 20 years. Police said they located the 14-year-old girl at a hotel Monday in Southgate.

DETROIT – Doctors told a Metro Detroit mother that her daughter would likely die after blood vessels in the teen’s brain suddenly ruptured. Despite the odds, the teen miraculously survived. With her daughter on the brink of death the mother sold her salon to be by the teen’s side. I really, I’m just happy,” said Tiffany Bernard, whose daughter managed to survive the brain aneurysm. CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Canton Township man has been arraigned on charges in connection with the shooting death of his 8-year-old son. Nicholas Bennett, 33, was arraigned on Friday morning. The shooting happened at a home in the 41020 block of Old Michigan Avenue in Canton Township on Dec. 15 at 3:45 p.m.Police said Bennett was working on a rifle when he fatally shot his son, who was in the room with him. Two men are being accused of stealing mail from hundreds of Metro Detroit homes in an effort to defraud one or more banks. Justin Lohman and Justin Cutshaw are being charged with several federal criminal counts of identity theft, bank fraud stolen mail and aiding and abetting. A 13-page criminal complaint against the pair alleges that they knowingly possessed stolen mail and used personal identifying information contained within that stolen mail to execute an ongoing scheme to defraud one or more banks. At least four police departments are involved in the investigation, including departments from Grand Rapids, Livonia, Westland and West Bloomfield. Police also discovered 19 additional stolen mail victims from six different communities in evidence that the men left at a Grand Rapids hotel.

The incident happened on Thursday at 3:31 p.m. at the bank located at Michigan Avenue and Old Canton Center. The suspect is accused of presenting a note demanding money to the teller. PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Police are investigating a fire at the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Transportation yard off Lilly Road overnight Saturday. The buses were set to be decommissioned from the fleet, so the damage will not affect the bus schedule and students will not be impacted in any way, but police are still looking for those responsible for the fire that engulfed and destroyed four school buses. Who would want to set fire to not just one but four buses at the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Transportation yard? The fire seemed to have started sometime Saturday night and police are looking for the people responsible for the potential arson. The only children utilizing the vehicles as a mode of transportation to school were elementary children who are learning on a hybrid set up of in-person and virtual-learning.

CANTON, Mich. – Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that happened Sunday morning around 7:15 a.m. in the area of Michigan Avenue and Schooner Road. It took place after a man was crossing the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue at Schooner Road from the south side to the north side. That is when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle which stopped and remained at the scene. The man was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ypsilanti where he died of his injuries. Canton police say speed, alcohol and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash.

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Canton womans child care family home license that was suspended by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) in July has been reinstated. LARA initially suspended Sheila Robbins license, effective July 31. An original notice posted by LARA cited a drug screening as the reason for the initial summary suspension. However, an administrative law judge granted LARAs motion to lift the summary suspension on Aug. 28. LARA also withdrew its notice of intent to revoke.

CANTON, Mich. Michigan State Police and Canton police are investigating a fatal rollover crash that involved multiple vehicles. The crash happened on Thursday around 7 p.m. on North I-275. When troopers arrived they determined the crash was fatal. A 53-year-old driver from Redford was driving too fast and rear ended the victims vehicle, causing it to rollover, according to police. Police said the driver who was at fault failed field sobriety tests and was arrested pending a blood search warrant.

ROMULUS, Mich. Two people have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Brian Eugene Davis, 40, of Romulus. Davis was shot and killed on May 19 at 8:35 p.m. in Romulus. Police officers were called to a gas station in the 27400 block of Eureka Road near Inkster Road. When officers arrived they saw the Romulus Fire Department rescue and Taylor rescue teams on scene. Officials said Davis approached the defendants vehicle and McMillon, who was a passenger, pulled out a weapon and shot Davis.

CANTON, Mich. – A 24-year-old Canton man went missing on Friday afternoon. Dashawn Adolph was last seen leaving his residence near Ford and Lotz roads around 3 p.m., officials said. Adolph is described as a black man who is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He drives a 2018 blue Chevy Malibu with the license plate #ECH3256. CANTON, Mich. – Canton police are looking for a man and woman they say allegedly stole from Walmart on April 9. Security camera photos show the pair leaving the store at 45555 Michigan Avenue with a television and other large boxes in carts. The man is described as white with wavy, dark-colored hair, a beard and a mustache. The woman is described as white with long, straight, dark-colored hair. Police believe she is also in her late 20s or early 30s.

CANTON, Mich. – A Canton man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted his wife with a saw and slammed an 8-year-old girl on the ground, police said. Oswald John Tallent, 46, is charged with assault with intent to murder, torture, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and 3rd-degree child abuse in connection with the incident. Officers were called to the 7300 block of Stonebrook Drive at about 1:15 p.m. Monday for a domestic assault report. Police said they found a woman in the driveway with lacerations on her face and body. CANTON, Mich. – On Wednesday Canton officers arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of breaking into parked vehicles. Police have been investigating the recent increase in thefts from vehicles in the Geddes and Beck roads area after a resident reported suspicious behavior that was captured on home security cameras. The officers searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 team from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, which led to the arrest of the man. During the investigation, police officers also located a stolen vehicle parked in the area. The man is currently being held in police custody pending case review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

FLINT, Mich. – A suburban Detroit man has pleaded guilty to carving a local gang’s name into a 15-year-old boy’s chest. Heard of Canton pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and admitted being the leader of a Michigan set of the Bloods street gang. CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman died in a crash that happened before 4 a.m. Saturday on I-275 near Michigan Avenue, Michigan State Police said. Two vehicles were driving southbound on I-275 before the crash. The first vehicle rear ended the second vehicle causing the first vehicle to steer off the roadway and roll over. Police say the first vehicle flipped over right on top of the driver inside it. The driver in the second vehicle was not injured.
