Downtown Detroit Markets (Cadillac Square), Wednesdays through Sundays: It’s the opening weekend for a holiday tradition Downtown. Cadillac Square has transformed into the city’s holiday central with a curated collection of 18 Detroit vendors where you can find specialty gifts, home décor, pet supplies, books and more. The row of holiday shops will lead you right into the Cadillac Lodge, a wintery indoor hangout for the ultimate cozy vibes that offers hot chocolate and treats. More info here.
Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical (Fox Theatre), through Sunday: Dr. Seuss’ Whoville comes to life in a musical adventure featuring the angriest resident of Whoville whose heart is “two sizes too small.” Based on the original animated special, relive the magical holiday moments with The Grinch and Max the Dog with holiday classics like “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” to remember the true meaning of the holidays. Motor City Comic Con (Suburban Collection Showplace), Friday to Sunday: Pop culture aficionados and comic culture enthusiasts from across Michigan and beyond gather for a star-studded weekend of collectibles, panels, discussions and over a million comics. It’s your chance to meet celebrities like David Harbour from Stranger Things, Mary McDonnell, James and Oliver Phelps, and so much more. Metallica (Ford Field), Friday & Sunday 6 p.m.: Are you ready to rock? The heavy metal legends are blowing the roof of Ford Field for the M72 World Tour to promote their latest album 72 Seasons. Every stop in the massive headlining tour includes two shows in each city with no songs repeated in either show: two totally different set lists with two different bands opening each night. Monroe Street Midway, opening weekend: The winter edition of the popular outdoor gathering spot is going to be your family’s new seasonal tradition. Right in the heart of Downtown Detroit, you’ll find a winter wonderland of activities including a 20-foot arctic slide, winter bumper cars, winter puck-putt and tasty treats. The Midway is free to enter, most activities free. Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. More info here.
Lindbergh Holiday Boutique (Charles A. Lindbergh Elementary School), Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Celebrating 50 years of holiday magic, the annual fundraiser for the school promises its biggest craft show yet. Here you’ll find the finest crafters from all over the state with unique and handmade goods that are sure to make wonderful holiday gifts. Admission is $3, free for children 10 and under. Red Wings vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (Little Caesars Arena), Saturday 1 p.m.: The Detroit Red Wings take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. In honor of Veterans Day, the Wings are celebrating with a Military Appreciation Night. Fans in attendance can get a free camo hat to commemorate the special evening. Get tickets here.
Paws and Claws CFA Cat Show (Huntington Place), Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Dozens of breeds and household pets compete for best in show. Come see breeds like the large Maine Coon, the hairless Sphynx, the werewolf-like Lykoi and more. Grab a picture with the internet sensation “Sunglass Cat” or take part in the cat costume contest. Big Bird Run (Recreation Authority Center, Roseville), Sunday 10 a.m.: The 45th annual run will have you charting through Gration Ave., I-696 and several residential streets. Choose from a 10K, 5K or 1-mile fun run. Registration is still available. Stick around for the famous turkey raffle and prizes. Masterpieces of Early Italian Renaissance Bronze Statuettes (Detroit Institute of Arts), through March: Joining the DIA’s already impressive collection of Italian Renaissance sculptures are four magnificent Florentine and Mantuan bronzes from the 15th Century on display for the first time together in the United States.
