ROYAL OAK, Mich. – If you don’t know what to get mom for Mother’s Day, how about a unique experience that involves a cooking lesson and being on live TV?
It costs you nothing and should be an experience you can talk about for years.
Here’s the offer: Mirepoix Cooking School will host a cooking lesson for you and your mom on Mother’s Day -- Sunday, May 10.
Whether mom is a home-cooking whiz or not, it could be fun to get tips from a professional chef at the culinary school in Royal Oak.
Mirepoix offers classes like “My Big Fat Greek Cooking Class” or “Date Night in Havana” that can cost just under $100.
The school is a premier resource for the home gourmand of any skill level.
Plus, this experience will be captured live on TV during a series of reports on Local 4 News Morning between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Your family and friends can watch from home as you learn to cook up a Mother’s Day brunch.
Here’s what to do
If you’d like to bring your mom to Mirepoix to kick off Mother’s Day, here’s what you need to do:
- Make sure you’re a WDIV Insider. If you’re not already a member, join here.
- In the form below, write a quick paragraph or two about why your mom is the Best Mom in The World. Submissions will begin March 28 at 8:30 a.m. and remain open until Wednesday, April 8 at noon.
- Ten semi-finalists will be selected on Thursday, April 9, and asked to submit a video entry -- once again explaining why their mom is the Best Mom in the World. Deadline for video submission is Friday, April 17, at noon.
- From these video submissions, three winning duos will be selected.
- For safety reasons during the lesson, all “children” hoping to win must be at least 18 years old.
- You must also be available to arrive at Mirepoix by 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026, to participate in the cooking lesson live on TV through 9 a.m.
- Then, have fun hanging out at Mirepoix with a Local 4 reporter.
The winners will be announced on Local 4 News Morning and ClickOnDetroit.com on Saturday, April 25.
