MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The three people charged in connection with the attempted murder of a Macomb County businessman were scheduled to be back in court on Monday, but the hearing was adjourned.

Jasan Martin, 32, of Eastpointe, Rachard Huffman, 39, and Dawn Huffman, 44, both from Sterling Heights, are scheduled to appear in 41-A District Court for a preliminary examination on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025.

During the preliminary hearing, a judge will review the evidence and then determine whether there is probable cause to bind the defendants over to Circuit Court, where they will potentially face trial.

Martin briefly appeared in court, but the prosecution requested that the hearing be adjourned because the other defendants could not be in court on Monday, and they wanted the cases to move forward together.

His defense attorney objected to this and wanted Martin’s hearing to happen, but the judge ended up adjourning the hearing.

All three defendants are now expected to be in court on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025.

Eddie Jawad, who owns several gas stations in Metro Detroit, was targeted outside of his Macomb Township home on Oct. 14, 2025.

A gunman emerged from behind a vehicle and fired shots at Jawad as he drove his SUV out of his garage.

Jawad was grazed in his right leg and struck in his left leg, and also suffered injuries from broken glass. He was released from the hospital later that same day.

Officials later identified Martin as the alleged gunman, and he was the first person arrested in connection with the shooting on Oct. 19, 2025.

Martin was initially charged with assault with intent to murder, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, carrying a weapon with an unlawful intent and three counts of felony firearm, in connection with the shooting. He was also charged as a habitual offender.

Then, on Monday, Nov. 3, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Martin and his brother, Rachard Huffman, had been arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in connection with the case. Rachard was also charged with conspiracy to commit embezzlement.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Rachard had worked at Jawad Investments for two years from August 2023 to August 2025.

His wife, Dawn, was the office manager for Jawad Investments when the shooting happened, and had worked for Jawad for over 22 years, officials said.

In her position, Dawn handled a credit card that was supposed to be used to pay utilities at Jawad’s properties.

Prosecutors say Dawn used the card to embezzle more than $100,000.

Dawn has been charged with embezzlement and conspiracy to commit embezzlement.

“Conspiracy to commit murder stands among the most evil and reprehensible of all crimes,” Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido previously said. “It represents not only a willingness to take an innocent life, but a deliberate and premeditated plan to do so. I commend the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent efforts in bringing these individuals to face justice.”
