The 2 temperature records Metro Detroit could break on Friday, Dec. 5 (WDIV)
There’s a chance Metro Detroit can tie or break record cold temperatures on Friday.
Record low
As temperatures fall into the single digits overnight, we could tie the record low on Friday morning -- which stands at 6 degrees. The record was set in 1974. Metro Detroit is expected to see a low of 7 degrees Friday morning.
Lowest maximum temperatures
The record for the lowest maximum temperature on Dec. 5 in Metro Detroit is 23 degrees, which was set in 1926. Friday is expected to be a maximum of 26 degrees; there’s still a chance the record could be broken.
Wind chills
While the lows are expected to be in the single digits, it’s really going to be the wind chills that will smack you in the face. Subzero wind chills are on tap across the area Friday morning, meaning it will feel as cold as 10 below zero.
