Visitors and staff at the Detroit Zoo are welcoming Nuka’s return after saying goodbye to him a year ago. The male polar bear is now back at the Zoo in Royal Oak in Metro Detroit after spending the last year in Ohio. He was first brought to the Detroit Zoo in 2011. Zoo officials say she showed no clinical signs and no abnormalities were found in her heart function during a 2020 medical exam. SOUTHFIELD, MI – A Michigan State Police patrol car with its emergency lights on was struck by a vehicle that lost control Saturday morning, March 4, in Metro Detroit, police said. The trooper’s patrol vehicle was parked with emergency lights on and no one inside. The driver of a car was traveling too fast for conditions, lost control and crashed into the patrol car, police said. This was the second time in less than two hours that a vehicle crashed into an MSP patrol car while troopers investigated another crash Saturday morning in Metro Detroit. Mike Shaw, MSP public information officer, said in a statement.

More rain and snow showers are on the way to Metro Detroit for the end of the weekend, and we also look back at the winter storm from Friday night into Saturday morning.

There haven’t been many major snowstorms in Metro Detroit this winter, but this weekend, skiers and snowboarders have a great chance to hit the slopes at Mt. Brighton.

Metro Detroit received another heavy dose of snow Friday evening and into the night, with some cities reporting more than 10 inches.

Ashley Daniels has worked in labor and delivery for Ascension Borgess hospital in Kalamazoo for more than a decade. In August, Borgess took steps to cut its nurse midwife staff from seven full-time caregivers down to three. Daniels said she and her colleagues were told last week the hospital would be looking to bring its midwife staff back up to six personnel. There is, however, an online job posting by Ascension to hire at least one certified nurse midwife in Kalamazoo. She heard about Borgess re-expanding its midwifery staff from a hospital nurse, and called it a great move.

At the end of 2019, Gerrod Abram began his first season as the head coach for the Ecorse boys basketball program. DETROIT – Two German Shepherd dogs were killed by a downed power line on Wednesday during the ice storm that walloped southeast Michigan, FOX 2 Detroit reports. The dogs, Legend and Pharoah, were electrocuted when they got too close to the live wire in the backyard of their family’s Detroit home, the report said. DETROIT - Wrestling history is about to me made again in Michigan. The biggest professional wrestling event since “Wrestlemania” 23 is coming to the state later this year with the announcement of WWE’s “SummerSlam” at Ford Field on Saturday, August 5. This will be the first time “SummerSlam” has been held in Michigan since 1993 and the biggest wrestling event in the state since 2007 when “Wrestlemania” took place at Ford Field. “Landing WWE SummerSlam at Ford Field is a signature win for Detroit and continues the momentum of the Detroit Sports Commission in attracting major sporting events to the region,” said Detroit Sports Commission Executive Dir. “Metro Detroit enjoys a special place in WWE history and has produced many iconic moments.

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI - Left Shark, Baby Shark, Jaws... whatever you want to call them, she’s got them in her front yard - Three snow sharks which are turning heads in Madison Heights in Metro Detroit. Jennifer Ramirez, a high school art teacher, says her sharks have been grabbing the attention of people driving by since she made them after last week’s snow storm. You can’t miss them, just look for the sharks which look like they’re coming out of the snow. She used the shoveled snow from her driveway to make the sharks. DETROIT – A Michigan brewery is releasing two variations of its popular paczki beer in 2023. Eastern Market Brewing Co., located in the heart of Detroit’s Eastern Market district, announced Thursday that it is bringing the beer back for a third year by releasing two fruited variations of the brew, Raspberry and Blueberry. Beer will be available for pick up at the taproom in Eastern Market Feb. 2-17. Paczki beer will also hit a limited number of store shelves as a mixed 4-pack with two cans each of Raspberry and Blueberry flavors. Eastern Market Brewing Co. and Detroit City Distillery are hosting a Paczki Block Party on Saturday, Feb. 18.

SOUTHFIELD, MI – Police are investigating after a man was found dead on a Metro Detroit highway. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Metro South Post responded to the northbound Southfield Freeway ramp to I-96 at 3:30 a.m. on Monday. No shell casings were found at the scene, police said. The freeway was closed while troopers investigated the scene but has since reopened. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the MSP tip line at 855-MICH-TIP or crime stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.

DETROIT -- Police are investigating after someone fired several shots at another vehicle during a road rage incident in Metro Detroit. Michigan State Police say the incident occurred near the northbound M-39 exit to eastbound I-96 at 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspect attempted to force the victim off the road with their vehicle, police said, before pulling alongside the victim’s vehicle and firing several shots. The vehicle was struck multiple times, but the victim was not struck or injured, police said. Troopers are investigating the suspect vehicle.

LIVONIA, MI -- Chick-fil-A continues to expand in Metro Detroit. The Atlanta-based fast-food chain announced Monday that its newest location will open in Livonia on Thursday, Jan. 12. It will be the 13th Chick-fil-A location in Metro Detroit. Located at 11700 Middlebelt Road, Chick-fil-A Livonia will be open for dine-in, drive-thru and carry-out from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Per standard procedure, Chick-fil-A Livonia is also recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the community by providing them with free Chick-fil-A meals for a year.

TROY, MI - A sweet exhibit is coming to Michigan in 2023 that’s a little Willy Wonka-esque. The immersive experience will tempt your taste buds for a limited time beginning March 16.
