PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Dispatch audio of 911 calls is shedding light on the dramatic downfall of former Michigan Wolverines football coach Sherrone Moore.
“Caller told her there’s a male at the location and he’s been stalking her for months,” one dispatcher relayed in audio recorded around 4 p.m. Wednesday, allegedly from an apartment complex in Pittsfield Township.
Another transmission followed, “The person she’s on the phone with said that S1 grabbed knife, threatened to kill her, and then ran, threw the knife down.”
Less than an hour after that call, the University of Michigan announced Moore had been fired for what it called an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Here’s another part of the dispatch audio coming in just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday:
“Pittsfield units, this is referencing a domestic, [...] a call from S1’s wife in Ann Arbor saying that the subject is suicidal after losing his job today.”
A source told NBC Sports on Thursday (Dec. 12) the university had allegedly been alerted before Wednesday that Moore had been dealing with mental health issues, but Athletic Director Warde Manuel allegedly dismissed Moore alone with no HR rep and no security present.
Moore remains in protective custody at the Washtenaw County Jail.
Pittsfield Township police continue investigating the alleged assault, and no charges have been officially filed.
“Sherrone Moore, man, he was given a job he probably otherwise would not have gotten as Jim Harbaugh‘s assistant,” said author and UM insider John U. Bacon. “Both Jim Harbaugh and Warde Manuel, athletic director, believed he was the guy for the job, and here he has squandered all of it. Absolutely all of it.”
Local 4 caught up with attorney Joseph Simon, who is believed to be connected to Moore’s defense, but he only said, “I’m not even confirming I’m representing him. I don’t have any comment.”
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office says the case remains active, but added that Moore is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Dec 12, 2025.
