WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – One person was arrested after a Wayne County deputy was shot at Tuesday afternoon.

Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington said a deputy was driving an unmarked car in the area of Peerless and Damman streets near I-94 when shots were fired at the deputy.

According to Washington, the deputy was not shot, but the unmarked car was damaged.

The sheriff said the deputy was conducting surveillance during a follow-up on a violent crime before shots were fired.

One was arrested in connection with the shooting, and a gun was recovered. Authorities said they are searching for two more suspects.

While law enforcement is looking for the other suspects, Washington said there is no threat to the public.

Michigan State Police is leading the investigation.
