Will Jones

Anchor/Reporter

Will Jones rejoined the Local 4 news team in February 2023 as a weekend evening anchor and weekday reporter. He previously worked as a general assignment reporter for the station from 2012 to 2015. 

Will returns to Detroit from ABC 7 Chicago where he spent the first 5 years as a general assignment reporter.  In 2021, he broke new ground as the station’s first race and culture reporter, highlighting underrepresented voices within the community.

While in Chicago, Will received multiple Chicago/Midwest Emmy awards. He was also recognized by the Illinois Broadcasters Association. 

During Will’s first stint in Detroit, he was honored with a Michigan Emmy award in 2015 for his special report on Freedom House Detroit, an organization that aids asylum-seekers. This project was particularly meaningful to Will, as he volunteered extensively at Freedom House Detroit, assisting clients in learning English and adapting to life in the United States. He continues to maintain relationships with several former clients, whom he regards as family.

Will has also worked at television stations in South Carolina and West Virginia. 

He is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Will spent many childhood summers visiting family in Detroit, fostering a deep connection to the city.

Will is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He resides in Detroit with his wife and daughter.
