For this weeks โMusic Mondayโ on โLive in the Dโ weโre getting you ready for a popular winter event happening in Downtown Royal Oak. The Winter Blast presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort kicks off this weekend, and in edition to ice skating, food trucks and more, the event will feature 40 local musical acts.
Man becomes youngest Black business owner in Royal Oak
ROYAL OAK, Mich. โ Welcome to Le Don Collection -- itโs the newest store in Downtown Royal Oak on South Washington Avenue, โWeโre art, fashion, sneakers.โAnd Saturday, the owner Le Don will open up his second clothing store to the public. His first one is in Southfield and the new one is in Royal Oak. โItโs a scary thing to open up a business in times like this,โ said Le Don. A new look for a famous art fair this Labor Day Weekend
Art By Appointment will be happening in Downtown Royal Oak in Art, Beats, and Eats festival. This is an opportunity for many artists to sell their art for the first time this season since the pandemic. You can purchase a ticket for $5 for a small, socially distanced art fair. Royal Oak offering $400,000 in gift cards to draw customers back downtown
ROYAL OAK, Mich. The city of Royal Oak is offering residents hundreds of thousands of dollars in gift cards to downtown businesses in an effort to give the economy a boost. Royal Oak, like many cities, is taking a major economic hit due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), and downtown manager Sean Kammer said theres a plan to get customers back into stores and restaurants by giving them money. The normally packed bars, restaurants and stores downtown are struggling to survive. Royal Oak is working to get people back downtown by offering more than $400,000 in gift cards to those who sign up for the citys website on visitroaloak.com. Each person who signs up for the newsletter will receive a $20 e-gift card to use at one of more than 50 locations in Downtown Royal Oak, Kammer said.
Hopcat permanently closes Royal Oak location, seeks to reopen elsewhere
ROYAL OAK, Mich. Craft beer bar and restaurant chain Hopcat confirmed the permanent closure of its Royal Oak location on Wednesday. Hopcat founder Mark Sellers told Eater Detroit that the location is permanently closing over disagreements with the landlord. It is with heavy heart that we announce the closure of our HopCat - Royal Oak location. We will be seeking a new location in Royal Oak so we can resume serving this awesome community in the future.Officials say they are looking to reopen the restaurant at a new location in the city in the future. Hopcats Royal Oak location has been closed since March amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

2019 Arts, Beats & Eats: Here's the music lineup
The lineup for the 2019 Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats festival in Royal Oak was revealed on Tuesday. The 22nd annual Arts, Beats & Eats will take place in Downtown Royal Oak on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. Festival admission is $3 until 3pm, $5 after 3pm, and $7 after 5pm on Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Arts, Beats & Eats is free to enter until 5pm on Friday only. This year's music lineup is headlines by: Starship, All American Rejects, Randy Houser, Phillip Phillips, Third Eye Blind, Night Ranger, Theory of a Deadman.
