Judge: University of Michigan must tell alumni about doctor abuse lawsuits
ANN ARBOR, Mich. A judge has ordered the University of Michigan to inform alumni about a class-action lawsuit against the school over sexual abuse by a longtime campus doctor. U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts intervened after lawyers argued that the university shouldn't be communicating with people who could become plaintiffs in the case. The university must follow up and tell people that participation with WilmerHale is voluntary and that lawsuits are pending in federal court in Detroit. Roberts said WilmerHale can't share any work with a separate team of lawyers that is defending the university. But at the same time the school is seeking to have lawsuits dismissed because too many years have passed.
University of Michigan reaches out to 300K former students to aid in Dr. Anderson investigation
ANN ARBOR The University of Michigan has contacted more than 300,000 former students who were on campus between the mid-1960s and early 2000s encouraging those who might have information regarding the late Dr. Robert E. Anderson. The effort is the universitys second attempt to reach those who could aid an independent investigation into allegations against Anderson. Anderson is accused by scores of former students -- most of them male athletes -- of sexual misconduct during routine exams. In addition, U-M is offering confidential, free counseling to individuals impacted by Andersons actions through national survivor support service Praesidium. Those who wish to use the service may contact Praesidium at 888-961-9273 to learn what services are available in their local area.

โWe will hold the University of Michigan accountable,โ says lawyer of Dr. Anderson victims
Lawyer Parker Stinar opened the press conference saying that his law firm represents more than a dozen athletes and non-athletes who suffered abuse from Anderson over several decades. "It was really difficult.โStinar read excerpts from Delucaโs letter to Manuel, which detailed unnecessary exams by Dr. Anderson when he was a 19-year-old wrestler in the 1970s. โSomething is wrong with Dr. Anderson," he wrote. It is time for the University of Michigan to accept responsibility for decades of sexual abuse and ignoring victimsโ cries. It is time for the University of Michigan to be held accountable.โStinar said that a meeting is scheduled with the University of Michiganโs general council.
