Thursday brought another day of cool air, but the quiet weather won’t last long. After a dry and breezy Friday, rain is expected to overspread the region late Friday night and could make for a soggy start to Memorial Day weekend.

People heading out early Thursday morning will notice a major difference from earlier this week. Jackets, hoodies, and long sleeves will likely be needed during the morning commute, especially with northeast winds occasionally gusting near 20 mph.

Southeast Michigan will keep temperatures above normal into the start of the coming week, but along with the heat will come chances for strong thunderstorms.

Temperatures will climb to around 80 degrees this weekend before surging close to 90 degrees Monday, giving the region its first extended taste of summerlike warmth and humidity.

As warmer air settles in, the forecast also calls for several opportunities for showers and thunderstorms from this weekend through early next week.

Comfortable conditions will make for a great end to the workweek in Metro Detroit, with light winds and a pleasant spring feel across the area.
