ANN ARBOR, Mich. – On Monday, the city of Ann Arbor will open registration for summer day camps at Argo and Gallup canoe liveries, Buhr Park Pool and Huron Hills Golf Course. School’s out: Ann Arbor Public Schools students given ‘virtual snow day’ Tuesday
ANN ARBOR – Remember snow days? In a time when students remain in virtual classrooms, a snow day might not be as glamorous as it once was. Still, students in Ann Arbor Public Schools are in luck because Superintendent Dr. Jeanice Kerr Swift has declared Tuesday a snow day. Snow totals from the overnight storm are expected to exceed half a foot across Southeast Michigan, with some areas getting up to 10 inches. Those sledding hills might get busy.
Ann Arbor Parks and Rec offers free golf for veterans on Wednesday
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Dust off those clubs and tee up! On Wednesday, veterans can play a free round of golf at Huron Hills Golf Course courtesy of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreations in honor of Veterans Day. Participants can play five-and-six-hole rounds for free and receive a free power cart rental. Golfers wanting to play 11 holes, the maximum allowed right now at HHCG due to construction, will just pay $5. Golf course construction began in September and consists of wetland creation and creek restoration to an area that will be called Benz Creek in the near future.
Construction to start on Huron Hills Golf Course in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Starting Sept. 8, construction and restoration is scheduled to begin on the Huron Hills Golf Course to fix issues of erosion, flooding, stormwater detention and water treatment quality. Construction project efforts include wetland creation, creek restoration, habitat improvement and stormwater detention. Currently, there are a number of issues on the golf course, including stream channel erosion, periodic flooding, limited stormwater detention and limited water quality treatment. The many ecological goals include adding stormwater detention, phosphorus reduction and habitat improvement to improve the stormwater impact in the area. From a recreational standpoint, these improvements look to improve design, playability and reduce the impact of rain events to the golf course.
Tee up! Veterans can golf for free May 26 at Huron Hills Golf Course
ANN ARBOR, Mich. On May 26, active and retired veterans will be able to play golf for free at Huron Hills Golf Course. Those who sign up will be able to play 9 or 18 holes. Tee times must be reserved in advance by calling (734)794-6246 and can be found online here. Tee times are staggered in 10-minute intervals and golfers must abide by social distancing rules and procedures. In November the City of Ann Arbor offers veterans the opportunity to play golf for free for Veterans Day.
