Saddiq Bey working out of shooting slump, Pistons struggle to overcome frosty first quarter
For Bey, who scored 28 points, Monday’s performance snapped a five-game offensive slump. Monday’s game was the second-straight game that Bey has made 40 percent or more of his shots from three-point range. But the Kings scored three-straight shots from distance to shut down the Pistons’ efforts. As a team, the Pistons shot 40.6 percent in the field but the Kings shot 53.1 percent overall. Jerami Grant’s hot third quarter lifts Detroit Pistons 112-104 win over Houston Rockets
Cunningham, along with a hot third quarter from Jerami Grant, gave the Pistons (2-8) a spark in the second half to beat the Hoston Rockets 112-104. The Rockets (1-10) threatened the Pistons’ 14-point lead in the fourth quarter to get within one point with just over two minutes remaining in the game. With 4:37 seconds left in the game, Cunningham knocked down a three from the sideline to put Detroit up 103-96. He also helped get teammates into the right spots to knock down shots to put up 30 points in the fourth quarter. Detroit Pistons fourth-quarter rally stifled in 96-90 loss to Brooklyn Nets
DETROIT -- After holding the Brooklyn Nets to under 40 percent in the first half, the Detroit Pistons couldn’t get into gear coming out of the half. But they found a spark in the second half of the fourth quarter to give themselves a chance. The Pistons (1-8), who have had trouble maintaining their energy in the second half of games showed plenty of fight in the waning minutes of Friday’s game. Pistons fourth-quarter rally falls short in 110-102 loss to Sixers
Detroit (0-4) launched a strong fight in the fourth quarter to slowly carve themselves out of what looked to be a blowout win for Philadelphia (3-2). The second-year forward scored 14 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the Pistons close the gap. He also had four steals to help get the Pistons plenty of opportunities in the third quarter when the Pistons’ offense had fallen stagnant. The Detroit Pistons held on as long as they could, but the Atlanta Hawks turned it on to power to a win 122-104. The Pistons (0-3) held the Hawks (2-1) to 27.3 percent shooting from three in the first half. Olynyk scored 21 points, had six rebounds, four assists, as well as two steals in 30 minutes of play. Detroit Pistons forward Saddiq Bey will be in uniform for the U.S. Olympic team tonight when it begins its five-game exhibition slate in preparation for the Tokyo Games. On Thursday, USA Basketball announced the members of its 17-athlete Select Team roster, which included the two first-year players. Bey, Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton were 2021 All-NBA Rookie first team selections, while Stewart, Immanuel Quickley and Patrick Williams earned All-Rookie second team honors. This is the first time Bey, who led all rookies in three pointers made and averaged 12.2 points per game, has earned USA Basketball honors. The 27-year-old forward, who was named to the Select Team in 2016, committed to Team USA in June and was officially named to the roster on Monday. With seven seconds on the clock, Grant stepped back and hit a shot to put the Pistons up by five. The Detroit Pistons completely turned the page Wednesday and took on the Toronto Raptors with energy, plenty of defense and ball movement to get the job done.
