Experience drive-thru Halloween light show near Ann Arbor
Medical specialty camp for children with serious health challenges North Star Reach will host a Drive-Thru Halloween Glow & Lights Show this season. The drive through the camp will feature spook-tacular illuminated displays, a wooded wonderland and singing jack-o'-lanterns. Tickets are $25 per car and all proceeds benefit North Star Reach, which provides a free summer camp experience for families with children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Elite Detroit Tigers prospect Riley Greene makes ridiculous homer-robbing catch in intrasquad game
DETROIT Make no mistake about it: The Detroit Tigers drafted Riley Greene because of his skills at the plate. The Tigers drafted Greene No. 5 overall in 2019 because he projects to be an elite hitter, but during Mondays intrasquad game, it was his glove that stole the show. Greene drifted back to his right, timed his jump perfectly and snatched the ball before it could land in the bullpen. It looks like the Tigers have a future star waiting in the wing whenever Greene rises to the MLB level.

Ann Arbor-based theater starts online drama camp for kids
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Wild Swan Theater, an Ann Arbor nonprofit that aims to make theater more accessible, will be hosting two virtual summer camp programs for kids in Camp DoYaWanna Online. Kids age 8-10 are invited to participate in the Playmakers camp while kids age 11-13 can join in the Storymakers program. Both camps will feature a daily Zoom meeting with Wild Swan teacher and Co-Artistic Director, Sandy Ryder. As the camp is 100% virtual, both programs at Camp DoYaWanna Online are open to kids anywhere in the world. This virtual camp includes 1,200 videos and experiences -- and they’re all free
Summer camp might not be an option this year, but YouTube has created a free #CampYouTube, so as to re-create common camp experiences through YouTube videos. These include arts and crafts, sports, writing workshops, photography tutorials, mental health exercises, exploring the outdoors and SO much more — seriously, there are about 1,200 videos in total. Any interest in learning how to make a ping pong ball float? Plus, YouTube uses resources for its videos from partners like the BBC, Imagination Library, Code.org, Breakthrough Junior Challenge, Google Arts and Culture, National Geographic Society, Sesame Street and others. “These resources are not meant to replace homework assigned by teachers, but meant to complement that work,” YouTube states on its camp website.
Ann Arbors Safety Town summer camps go virtual in July
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Starting July 13, young children can participate in Ann Arbors Safety Town virtual week-long summer camps. Visit the registration website for more information or to register for a virtual Safety Town camp. Safety Town camps are typically held for eight weeks every summer at Dicken Elementary School. The Ann Arbor Safety Town program began in 1979 to educate kindergarteners and has evolved over the past 40 years. The program is overseen by the Ann Arbor Public Schools Community Education and Recreation Department and works in partnership with the Ann Arbor police and fire departments.
Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum launches Camp-at-Home program
ANN ARBOR, Mich. The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum in downtown Ann Arbor has launched a new program to make sure that children in the area are engaging with science while at home. Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science & Nature Center members will only pay $35. As of now, four different Camp-at-Home sessions have been announced:AAHOM is offering optional add-ons for purchase along with the Camp-at-Home experiences. Ann Arbor YMCA expands in-person summer camp opportunities
ANN ARBOR The Ann Arbor YMCA has expanded its in-person and virtual summer day camps for kids ages 5-16. Starting the week of July 6, in-person, full-day camps will be held in locations in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Pinckney. Virtual day camps will begin the week of June 15. In-person camps include:Camp Birkett - 9141 Dexter-Townhall Road, PinckneyThe full-day camp runs 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the shores of Silver Lake. The camp location will be moved to the Ann Arbor YMCA from Aug. 24-28.
Ann Arbor YMCA announces virtual, in-person summer programs
ANN ARBOR While the Ann Arbor YMCA has had to reimagine its 2020 summer camp season due to the ongoing health crisis, it has announced it will be offering virtual and in-person programming this season. In-person camps will take place at locations in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Pinckney. According to the Y, registration for in-person programming is limited to essential workers. The camp location will be moved to the Ann Arbor YMCA from Aug. 24-28. Campers can take part in optional virtual programming guided by YMCA Day Camp staff.

ANN ARBOR The Ann Arbor Art Center has announced the cancellation of its in-person summer programming due to federal and state guidelines surrounding the coronavirus. Kids can get a summer camp experience without leaving home

Henry Ford Museum extends closures due to coronavirus pandemic
DEARBORN, Mich. The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn announced Friday that it will remain closed through June 28 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Officials say a new task force has been established to develop a phased reopening plan for the museum that focuses on protecting public health and safety.
