Metro Detroit weather: Winter weekend ahead
Today is going to feel like we turned the corner back to Winter. Anticipate some rain transitioning to flurries this morning with the cooling airmass in place. However, we won’t see much accumulation on the wet and relatively warm ground before flurries taper off through the afternoon hours.
Tracking flurries in Metro Detroit Friday
There doesn’t appear to be much optimism for sunshine later today with these morning clouds over Metro Detroit, but the clouds are keeping temperatures in the low 30s. Clearer skies would permit some cooler 20s. Good Friday morning! So let’s chalk up a win for the clouds this morning because they are not leaking any more of that wintry mix. Watch out for some slippery spots after last night’s light rain and snow and Metro Detroit surface temps close to freezing. That goes for that walk to work or simply to your car as the sidewalks and streets may have secret slick spots. Other than that, we’re doing just fine heading into the weekend.
Lake effect band expected to gradually dissipate -- what to know for beginning of week
Every day this past week we 4Warn meteorologists kept imploring you not to ignore the lake effect potential this weekend. Sure enough, a dominant band extended eastward early Saturday morning and pretty much set up shop roughly between I-96 and I-69.
Severe winter storm to hit Metro Detroit before Christmas: Snow total predictions, timeline
All systems are go for one of the severest winter storms to ever hit our area. And I say this not based upon the amount of snow we’ll get but, rather, based upon the severity of the overall conditions that we will experience, not to mention the timing…on the huge travel day just before Christmas.
Here are some benefits of changing sports during winter
Sports help kids build confidence and learn valuable life lessons. Most importantly, they should be fun for kids, but sometimes young athletes who find a sport they love will push themselves or get pushed by their parents into doing it exclusively.
Metro Detroit weather: Waiting for wintry weather before we warm
We have had some scattered rain and snow showers here in Metro Detroit overnight and the roads are a little bit slippery in spots as temperatures slowly drop from the mid to lower 30s near freezing as you head out and about. There is also a breeze that will be picking up keeping wind chills in the 20s making it another day for the winter coat, hats, and gloves if you plan on spending any time outdoors catching a bus or walking the dog… bundle up! A few spotty rain and snow showers are still moving through Metro Detroit this morning which will make for some slick spots on the roads in those spots that see a little wintry weather. These mainly snow showers will be hit or miss as you hit the roads.
