Macomb County’s hate crime unit has new leadership

Interview with Kurt Heise, assistant prosecuting attorney of Macomb County

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – In 2022, the Macomb County prosecutor’s office created a special unit dedicated to investigating and prosecuting hate crimes. Now they have a new leader.

The county created the office to respond to an uptick in hate-related crimes during the past years.

Hate crimes can have a lasting impact on both the victim and an entire community.

Kurt Heise, assistant prosecuting attorney of Macomb County, joined Local 4 Live to talk to us about the unit and what they see happening in the county.
