YPSILANTI, Mich. – This year, the Michigan Department of Education released a formal AI guidance for schools, placing a focus on AI literacy as a new essential skill.
The guidance aims for students to understand privacy, data protection, equity, accessibility, and for students to critically evaluate and oversight AI outputs.
As schools navigate new policies, educators say students should have a choice too.
In July, students from Ypsilanti Community Schools will take part in America’s youth AI festival, a national event with a focus on how young people can help shape the future of technology.
Students Jeancia Mazama, Lamarea Tooson, and the superintendent of Ypsilanti Community Schools, Alena Zachery-Ross, joined Local 4 Live to tell us what they think.
