Police say the investigation stemmed from an earlier incident where a law enforcement task force comprised of several agencies was fired upon in the area of eastbound I-94 between Moross and Vernier.
Officers from the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police and Harper Woods responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle abandoned in a residential area in Harper Woods.
Police searched the area for at least two hours, scanning the roadway for evidence on foot with K-9 officers. At least one evidence marker could be seen on the road next to what appeared to be a shell casing.
Police say no officers were injured in the shooting and Michigan State Police is leading the investigation with assistance from local agencies.
All lanes of eastbound I-94 remain closed at Moross Road while the investigation continues.
