HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man fired a shot after believing teens playing “ding-dong-ditch” were breaking into his home in Huron Township.
The Huron Township Department of Public Safety say they responded to the 29000 block of Rosewood around 3:30 a.m. on July 27, for a report of shots fired.

According to the Department, the 911 call came from the resident that fired the shot, reporting that someone was trying to break into their home, they fired a shot and were unsure if anyone was hit.
Investigators say the disturbance was teens playing ding-dong-ditch, there was no attempted entry into the home and the shot fired was shot through the home’s window in the general direction of the teens.
There was no injury or additional damage from the shot fired, police say.
According to authorities the three teens, 16, 17 and 17, were issued citations for creating a disturbance, parents of the teens will be issued a citation for parental responsibility and the homeowner was issued a citation for reckless discharge of a firearm.
“Banging on a person’s door in the middle of the night while they’re sleeping can force them to make split second decisions that can have deadly consequences. Parents, please use this as an opportunity to talk to your kids about this type of behavior,” said Everette Robbins, Director of Public Safety “It is also the responsibility of a gun owner to know exactly what they are pointing their weapon at and shooting towards. Hopefully this can be a learning experience for all of us.”
