Detroit children learn golf from new Detroit PAL program
DETROIT – The Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) works to enrich the lives of children through sports and character development. Detroit PAL’s director of program administration, Fred Hunter, said it’s important for nonprofits to join forces and share resources amid the COVID pandemic. First Tee has a proven program and Detroit PAL has the volunteers, administrative know-how and lot of eager kids. Little Putters are children ages 5 and 6 who will learn at BOYSVILLE gym. Police: Tiger Woods injured in single-car crash, extracted with ‘jaws of life’

The crash occurred shortly before 7:15 a.m. Police said Woods was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries. Police said he had to be extracted from the vehicle with the “jaws of life” tool. Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg told Golf Digest: “Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. Golf star Tiger Woods was injured in a vehicle rollover in Los Angeles County, authorities said.
Midnight Golf Program in Detroit teaching life skills for the last 20 years
DETROIT – The Midnight Golf Program has done wonders for African Americans in a sport that’s dominated by White males; however, that’s something the program is hoping to change. “Midnight Golf started 20 years ago with only 17 students, and as of today, we’ve had 3,500 students,” said founder Renee Fluker. For 20 years, the Midnight Golf Program has been taking kids off the streets and placing golf clubs in their hands -- giving them a different alternative in life. Fluker said the program started when her son had a rough time being the only person of color on his high school golf team. AdThat’s when she started the program in 2001, not only to help young African Americans get involved in golf, but also to help them through college with 16 mentors to help.

ANN ARBOR – For local student Nemo Tsai, 2020 was as normal a year as could be until a casting agent from Food Network reached out to him on Instagram to audition for Season 9 of “Kids Baking Championship.”Nemo’s family has owned Japanese-American fusion restaurant Godaiko and Tsai Grocery in southwest Ann Arbor for more than 25 years. Raised in the kitchen, Nemo was making sushi rolls before he was five years old, and recently took up baking after watching videos on YouTube. “This was the first season that parents get onto the show and react,” said Nemo. Ann Arbor Parks and Rec offers free golf for veterans on Wednesday

On Wednesday, veterans can play a free round of golf at Huron Hills Golf Course courtesy of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreations in honor of Veterans Day. Participants can play five-and-six-hole rounds for free and receive a free power cart rental. Golfers wanting to play 11 holes, the maximum allowed right now at HHCG due to construction, will just pay $5. Golf course construction began in September and consists of wetland creation and creek restoration to an area that will be called Benz Creek in the near future.

An albatross has happened the most times at golf’s oldest major, the British Open, which has seen an albatross occur eight times in its history. The U.S. Open and PGA Championship were the last to see three, by Nick Watney in 2012 and Joey Sindelar in 2006, respectively. Bryson DeChambeau wins Rocket Mortgage Classic by 3 shots
DETROIT Bryson DeChambeau got the result he was looking for from transforming his body. With jaw-dropping drives and some clutch putts, DeChambeau won the Rocket Mortgage Classic by three strokes Sunday for his first victory of the season and sixth overall. DeChambeau shot a 7-under 65 at Detroit Golf Club, birdieing four of the first seven holes and closing with three straight. 16, a short putt for birdie on the next hole and uncorked a 367-yard drive to set up another short putt at 18. On Saturday, DeChambeau had a testy exchange with a TV cameraman after a bogey on the sixth hole.

Experts have divided 25 popular sports into three categories: high, moderate and low risk. The National Federation of State High School Associations released their list, which is based on the amount of close, sustained contact, along with other factors. Oklahoma recently rejected a plan that would have required social distancing and allowed all high school sports to resume without restrictions. One idea being considered by many states would change the calendar to shift lower risk sports to fall and move higher risk ones to the spring.
