The threat for thunderstorms returns to Southeast Michigan this afternoon and evening, with a few storms potentially becoming strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed Southeast Michigan under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather today. The greatest potential for stronger storms is expected between I-94 and the Ohio border, where conditions may be more favorable for storm development this morning and again between 3 to 8PM.
Most storms will remain non-severe, but an isolated stronger storm could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Frequent lightning will also be a concern with any thunderstorms that develop. If you have outdoor plans today. make sure to be weather-aware this afternoon and evening and have a way to receive weather alerts.
The unsettled weather pattern doesn’t completely go away after today. There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon in our northern communities. Isolated chances linger on Thursday, although coverage is expected to be limited.
Drier weather develops by Friday and Friday night, providing a brief break before another round of unsettled weather arrives for the weekend. Forecast guidance continues to suggest a renewed chance for showers and thunderstorms, including periods of heavy rainfall, over the weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable, with afternoon highs generally staying in the 80s through the remainder of the workweek.
