One of the classics of musical theater is in Detroit through Jan. 8 at the Fisher Theatre. “Les Misérables” is one of the most celebrated shows of all time and cast member Haley Dortch joined Tati Amare on “Live in the D” to talk about her national debut tour.

We’ve seen the Detroit Youth Choir (DYC) rise to the top during their appearance on “America’s Got Talent”, and with many new opportunities that have opened up for them since then. Now the choir is returning to the national stage.

Season 22 of The Voice premiered Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on NBC. This season, coaches include Blake Shelton, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and new to the show Camila Cabello.

The DYC is keeping their talent and legacy going.

It’s just an honor and a blessing to be able to do nursing and singing at the same time,” she said on Monday.

DETROIT – Rio Souma has gone from working at an auto plant to belting it out on NBC’s The Voice. Souma is looking to advance in the battle rounds on Monday night’s episode. “The way he (John Legend) compliments you, or the way he teaches you. He tells you something you’re doing awesome and then he’ll tell you what you need to work on and then he’ll top it off with something you’re doing great.”Fans have started to take notice. But, where you’re good, you’re good! One Detroiter recently showed exactly how good he is when he performed Smokey Robinson’s classic song “Cruisin” during the blind auditions on “The Voice”. Rio Souma joined Tati Amare to discuss his show-stopping performance that literally turned the heads of three of the show’s coaches. Souma also shared some of his musical background, including his time at Cass Technical High School and being a member of the Detroit Mosaic Youth Theater. Young gospel singers between the ages of 10-17 are invited to submit a YouTube video link featuring them singing their favorite gospel song acapella or with music. I hate to divide Americans even further but after reading all the glowing reviews for Taylor Swifts Folklore, and actually giving the album a try myself, I have to get this off my chest. Though she nails the storytelling that typically accompanies folk music, as well as the laid back melody, its how she tells the story that misses the mark. My issue then lies with all the music reviewers out there, who work for esteemed publications, who praised her lyrics as profound. Or maybe the reviewers have some bias they should maybe acknowledge before diving into an album. On top of all the stellar reviews, the TODAY Show dedicated a whole segment to how good her album is.
