But qualifying for a bowl game could upgrade the 2014 season from total disaster to serious disappointment. Most importantly, focusing on a bowl game would buy the university more time in its search for an athletic director and potential replacement for Hoke. Dave Brandon resigns as Michigan AD, Jim Hackett named interim
The announcementPresident Mark Schlissel announced Friday afternoon that Dave Brandon has resigned as Michigan athletic director amid a storm of national scrutiny. Hackett was an offensive lineman at Michigan at the same time as Brandon under legendary coach Bo Schembechler. Brandon took over the Michigan athletic department with one goal in mind: Turn the tradition of the university into profit. Michigan could potentially be interested in the University of Connecticut's athletic director Warde J. Manuel, who served as associate AD at Michigan. Current Arkansas AD Jeff Long also rose to associate AD at Michigan before becoming the top dog at Pittsburgh.
Ann Arbor bank open on Columbus Day because 'Columbus is in Ohio'
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ Fans of college football know Michigan and Ohio State hate each other on the field, but a local bank took the rivalry to the next level Monday by staying open on Columbus Day because "Columbus is in Ohio." The Bank of Ann Arbor announced their decision to stay open on Twitter Monday morning. The two teams will meet in Columbus on Nov. 29 this season. Ohio State is 4-1 on the young season, while Michigan has struggled early but improved to 3-4 with a win against Penn State Saturday.
University of Michigan RB Fitzgerald Toussaint arrested for drunken driving
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ The starting running back for the Michigan Wolverines, Fitzgerald Toussaint, was arrested on DUI charges Saturday night in Ann Arbor after having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of .08. Head coach Brady Hoke said in a statement, "Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action." MARTINSVILLE, Va. โ Tuesday night's down-to-the-wire Sugar Bowl victory for the University Michigan was quite sweet for Michigan International Speedway president Roger Curtis, but a bit sour for Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. The game was a nail-biter to the very end, and while I'm obviously pleased Michigan won, it was a thrilling game for fans of both teams." The bet was simple: if the Hokies won, Curtis would have travelled to Martinsville to serve the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hotdogยฎ to media. If Michigan won, Campbell would visit MIS to serve the Coney Dogs to the press. Founded in 1947 by the late H.Clay Earles, Martinsville Speedway is the only track remaining on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit that hosted an event in the series' inaugural year, 1949.
