After a couple of flakes Wednesday, accumulating snow is on the way to end the week. And yes, this snow is the type that you’ll have to move with either a shovel or a snowblower.
Wednesday
For the rest of Wednesday, the clouds hang tough, and will try to squeeze out a few more flakes. This won’t add up to much of anything, but a few will fly. Temperatures overnight drop into the middle to upper 20s.
Thursday
Thursday starts off dry, but a few snow showers are possible in the afternoon.
But the impactful snow comes later in the evening and at night. This snow Thursday night will fall at a heavier rate and will add up.
Friday
By daybreak Friday we could see up to an inch of snow on the ground, perhaps more in some spots further north and northwest towards Flint. Because of this, your Friday morning drive will likely be a slow one.
Throughout the day Friday snow showers continue, and will at times be a little heavy. There will be periodic breaks in the snow, but chances continue through the afternoon and taper down in the evening. By Friday night we’re looking at anywhere from 1/2″ to over 2″ of new snow. Higher amounts will be closer to Flint and the Thumb.
Weekend forecast
While a few flakes are possible on Saturday, we’re not anticipating much more in the way of accumulation.
Following the snow the cold settles back in for southeast Michigan. Highs this weekend will struggle to get into the middle 20s. Perhaps upper 20s on Saturday, but that’s well below where we should be this time of the year.
Another system, this one weaker, gives us the chance for a few light snow showers later Monday of next week. This won’t add up to much, but a light accumulation will be possible. Those south closer to the Ohio state line could even see a few flakes mix in as well.
Christmas forecast
As we head towards Christmas, temperatures slowly rise. We’re in the middle to upper 30s on both Tuesday and Wednesday, so some melting will likely occur. But depending on how much we see add up, there’s still the chance there could be some on the ground on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.
