Blustery weather continues in Metro Detroit with single-digit wind chills

Large winter storm to impact millions in Midwest, Mid-Atlantic

Blustery! Saturday has been cold and breezy with snow showers. Sunday will bring some relief.

Saturday night will be mostly to partly cloudy with a few lake-effect snow showers. Temperatures will fall to around 15 degrees in Metro Detroit, but wind chills will be in the single digits. It will feel subzero in some communities. Westerly winds will be 8 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Sunday

Sunday will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds. Morning wind chills will be in the single digits with afternoon highs in the mid 20s. This is slightly lower than the average high of 33 degrees. The average low is 21 degrees.

Temperatures will be in the mid 20s in Downtown Detroit on Sunday afternoon with a wind chill around 20 degrees. Evening wind chills will fall back into the teens. (WDIV)

Winds will let up Sunday afternoon, which will lead to wind chills around 20 degrees; but Lions tailgaters will still want to bundle up. Evening wind chills will fall back into the teens. Daytime winds will be out of the west-northwest at 6 to 12 mph.

Most of Southeast Michigan will be mostly cloudy on Sunday night. After midnight, a few lake-effect snow showers will develop off of Lake Huron for parts of the Thumb. Winds will be out of the north at 5 to 10 mph. Lows will be near 20 degrees.

Winter storm impacting tens of millions

An expansive winter storm will track over the Ohio and Tennessee valleys on Sunday and Monday and dump as much as a foot of snow in some areas. Winter storm warnings are posted from the Great Plains to the Mid-Atlantic, including the blizzard conditions expected in parts of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. This storm will disrupt ground and air travel for people.

Monday

While the storm will trek south of Michigan, communities south of I-94 could see a few snow showers from it on Monday.

Otherwise, Southeast Michigan will be cloudy with a chance of lake-effect snow showers off of Lake Huron. Monday’s highs will be in the mid to upper 20s.

Rest of Week

It will be mostly cloudy and cold through the week. Snow showers will be possible on Wednesday and Friday.
