Dangerously cold temperatures move into Metro Detroit starting Sunday night

Wind chills could go as low as -25 degrees

A few snow showers are possible Sunday afternoon and evening... (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a little rain and snow showers activity to start the weekend on Saturday, followed by some sunshine in the afternoon, we start to bring in the snow showers and colder temperatures into the forecast for the end of the weekend.

The cloud cover will stick around for the end of the weekend on Sunday. Mostly cloudy skies, will be the rule of thumb, with a few breaks in the clouds for a little bit of sunshine. As we watch an area of low pressure move up the Eastern Seaboard over the end of the weekend, we will keep a few snow showers into the forecast as well, and it will be a little breezy into Sunday as well. High temperatures remaining into the teens by Sunday afternoon.

Once we work into Sunday night, we start to bring the dangerous temperatures and wind chills into the forecast. We have declared a 4Warn Weather Alert for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to where the forecast temperatures and wind chills will go. High pressure will build into the region out of the midwestern United States into the Eastern Seaboard by Wednesday. With that, we will get some much colder air moving into the region, so we will keep a mixture of sunshine and clouds into the forecast Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

As of right now, here is where we are expecting temperatures and wind chills to go over the next few days:

  • Monday High Temperatures: 8° to 12°
  • Monday Wind Chills: -5° to -15°
  • Monday Low Temperatures: 0° to -10°
  • Monday Night/Tuesday Morning Wind Chills: -15° to -25°
  • Tuesday High Temperatures: 4° to 10°
  • Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning Wind Chills: -10° to -20°
  • Wednesday High Temperatures: 8° to 16°
  • Wednesday Wind Chills: -5° to -15°

Once we get into the second half of the week, it looks like a weak disturbance moves into the region by the time we get to Thursday, so we will keep the chance of some snow showers into the forecast, before the dry weather sticks around into the end of the week and start of next weekend. It does look like we will have enough moisture to keep some cloud cover around, so expect mostly cloudy skies both Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures will be on a warming trend by the time we get to the second half of next week, and we will climb out of the freezer pretty quick as well. High temperatures will warm into the 20s for Thursday and Friday with overnight lows into the teens. Then, it looks like we will climb into the lower 30s, right around the freezing mark by the time we get to the first part of next weekend on Saturday.

  • Sunday night: Mostly cloudy cloudy skies. Bitter cold. Low: 3.
  • Monday (4Warn Weather Alert): Partly cloudy skies. Dangerously cold. A chance of snow showers. High: 9.
