Chilly start in Metro Detroit with snow chances tonight -- What to know

Temperatures trend below average all week

Brrrr! December 1st marks the start of Meteorological Winter and right on cue, it feels like it.

It is a chilly start to the work week as some areas are waking up in the single digits and teens. Otherwise, mostly cloudy and cold on this Monday with highs this afternoon at or below freezing.

Snow chances tonight

Light accumulating snow is on tap tonight. This round arrives late evening and will likely be done before daybreak on Tuesday.

The highest accumulation will be from M-59 southward, with up to 1-2 inches expected. The Thumb will likely see a dusting at most. I would set your alarm a few minutes early on Tuesday in anticipation of a possible slick morning drive. However, if crews are out before sunrise treating the roads, I think we could be in decent shape by the rush hour due to the snow exiting the region before 7AM, but it will be highly dependent on whether roads have been treated or not.

Snow chances this week

Another arctic front will bring the potential for light snow late Wednesday, with some minor accumulation possible. Temperatures will remain below average throughout the rest of the week.

Highs will not exceed 32 degrees through the upcoming weekend. Thursday and Friday will be the coldest days this week with wind chill of single digits to lower teens. This could be the coldest air we’ve seen so far this season.
