Metro Detroit to see some evening flurries ahead of arctic blast

Wind chills drop below zero late week

We have a little haze and fog across portions of Metro Detroit this morning, but not overly dense. Otherwise, mostly cloudy with highs around freezing today and a chance for a few scattered flurries/light snow showers late this afternoon and evening as a cold front passes.

I don’t expect this to be a snowmaker that results in shoveling, but it could drop minor accumulations from a dusting to an inch in spots that could lead to a few slick spots. Behind that front will be a much colder air mass to round out the week.

Subzero wind chills

If your kids wait outside at the bus stop, you might want to plan for them to sit in your car the next couple of mornings before pickup. High temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees below average on Thursday and Friday, in the low 20s, but it will be the morning lows that will be brutal. Subzero wind chills are on tap Thursday and Friday morning with air temperatures falling into the single digits by Friday morning.

Looking ahead

Mostly cloudy with highs on either side of 30 this weekend. The snow at the surface will not melt anytime soon. In fact, we could add some more to it. Our next snowmaker will likely arrive on Tuesday with another shot later Wednesday of next week.
