Metro Detroit gets spring preview Friday, winter reminder this weekend

Friday’s highs forecast to reach 50s in Southeast Michigan

4Warn Weather – A brief surge of milder air will move into southeast Michigan to close out the workweek before colder air returns for the second half of the weekend, followed by another warming trend into next week.

Thursday night will be partly to mostly clear with lows in the mid to upper 20s across Metro Detroit.

Inland suburbs may dip into the mid-20s, while areas closer to downtown Detroit and along the Detroit River remain a few degrees milder.

Light south winds will limit how far temperatures fall.

Friday brings the warmest air of the stretch. Southwest winds will increase through the day, with gusts between 30 and 40 mph possible during the afternoon.

Communities in the Thumb will run cooler, generally topping out in the mid to upper 40s.

Friday night stays relatively mild with lows in the lower to mid-30s under partly cloudy skies.

Winds shift west overnight as a dry cold front passes through the area.

Saturday will be cooler but still seasonable, with highs in the lower 40s across Metro Detroit and mainly 30s toward the Thumb.

A disturbance developing along the stalled boundary may trigger snow showers late in the day and into the evening.

Any light snow that develops could result in minor accumulations.

Colder air settles in on Sunday with mostly sunny skies and highs only in the 20s. Overnight lows Sunday night will drop into the teens.

Temperatures begin a gradual rebound Monday under partly sunny skies, with highs in the lower 30s.

Tuesday turns milder, climbing into the upper 30s to lower 40s, with a chance of rain developing in the afternoon and continuing into Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, highs are forecast to reach the mid to upper 40s with additional chances for rain.

The warming trend continues into Thursday, when highs could approach the lower 50s with periods of rain likely.

Overall, the pattern features a warm and windy Friday, a cooler weekend with a chance of light snow late Saturday, and a steady moderation in temperatures through the middle of next week.

Areas north and east, including the Thumb, are expected to run consistently cooler than Metro Detroit throughout the period.
