4Warn Weather – Metro Detroit is about to experience its warmest stretch of weather since the first week of October, marking a dramatic turnaround after weeks of chilly spring temperatures.
Thursday will still feel cool and seasonable, with highs only reaching the lower 60s under a mix of sunshine and clouds. But after that, temperatures take off quickly.
By Friday, highs rebound to near 70 degrees before surging into the lower and mid-80s over the weekend and early next week. Highs could reach the mid to upper 80s on Monday.
The last time Detroit officially climbed warmer than 82 degrees was October 6, 2025, when temperatures reached 85 degrees.
Before that, highs reached 87 on Oct. 4 and 84 on Oct. 3.
This upcoming warm spell will exceed the warmest weather seen so far this year.
The warmest temperatures of 2026 to this point occurred in mid-April, when Detroit reached 82 degrees on April 12 and 13, and 81 degrees on April 14.
Since then, Southeast Michigan has spent much of May stuck in cooler-than-average patterns.
That changes quickly this weekend.
The warming trend begins Friday as sunshine increases and southwest winds help push temperatures well above the seasonal average high of around 70 degrees.
By Saturday, many neighborhoods across Metro Detroit could reach the mid-80s, delivering a true summerlike feel.
People across Southeast Michigan will likely notice the difference immediately.
Windows will finally open again. Lawnmowers will come back out. Grills and patios will fill up.
Parks, bike trails, and outdoor dining spots are expected to be much busier after the recent stretch of cool weather.
With stronger May sunshine and much warmer temperatures, sunscreen and hydration will once again become important for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
The warmup arrives just in time for a busy weekend around Metro Detroit.
The Detroit Tigers host the Toronto Blue Jays Friday through Sunday at Comerica Park, and overall weather conditions look favorable for baseball fans.
Friday evening appears dry and comfortable with temperatures settling through the 60s.
Saturday currently looks very warm, breezy, and mainly dry throughout much of the day, though a few showers could develop later in the afternoon or evening as the atmosphere becomes increasingly unstable.
Some forecast guidance suggests a complex of thunderstorms could weaken and approach Saturday night.
Sunday’s forecast remains a bit more uncertain, especially for Flower Day at Eastern Market.
There could be a few scattered showers developing later Sunday afternoon, but much of the morning, including a large portion of Flower Day activities, may end up mainly dry with warm temperatures in the 70s. The exact timing of any rain will depend on how quickly weekend storm chances develop and how nearby weather systems evolve.
Even with occasional rain chances, the overall message for the next several days is clear: Metro Detroit is transitioning from spring coolness to much more summerlike conditions.
After clouds, gusty winds, and high temperatures in the 40s and 50s to start this week, many people across Metro Detroit may finally feel like the warm weather season has officially arrived.
