Sunshine continues Tuesday before showers, thunderstorms return midweek in Metro Detroit

Another beautiful summer day is in store across Southeast Michigan as warm temperatures, low humidity and abundant sunshine continue to dominate the forecast as high pressure pushes off to the east. Expect mostly sunny skies throughout the day with comfortably warm afternoon temperatures in the low 80s.

Changes begin to arrive on Wednesday as the next weather system approaches from the west. The first chance for showers and thunderstorms is expected during the afternoon, mainly across the Tri-Cities region, while much of Metro Detroit should remain dry through most of the day. By Wednesday night, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread across Southeast Michigan, with periods of rain continuing into Thursday. At this time, severe weather is not expected, although locally heavy downpours and occasional lightning will be possible with the stronger storms.

Conditions improve to end the workweek as rain exits the region. Dry weather returns Friday afternoon and is expected to continue through much of Saturday, providing another excellent opportunity for outdoor activities. Looking ahead to the second half of the weekend, another weather system may bring a chance for showers by Sunday. While confidence in the exact timing is still moderate, it appears the weekend will feature a dry start before rain chances increase late.
