LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Tornado warnings issued for several counties in Southeast Michigan Thursday afternoon have expired.
Monroe County
- Expired at 4:40 p.m. Thursday
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located at 4:12 p.m. Thursday over Maybee and near Carleton. It was moving southeast at 50 mph.
This was a radar-indicated warning.
The following areas are expected to be affected by the storm:
- Monroe and Carleton around 4:15 p.m.
- Other locations that might be affected include Newport, Cone, Estral Beach, South Rockwood, Woodland Beach, Stony Point, Bolles Harbor, Azalia, Scofield, and Oakville.
Wayne County
- Expired around 4:30 p.m. Thursday
Wayne County is under a tornado warning until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Severe thunderstorms capable of producing multiple tornadoes were located at 3:47 p.m. along a line from near West Bloomfield to Dixboro to near Saline. It was moving southeast at 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
This was a radar-indicated warning.
Flying debris will be a hazard to anyone without shelter. Mobile homes, windows, vehicles, and roofs might get damaged or destroyed.
The storms are expected to affect:
- Livonia, Southfield, Romulus, Canton, and Belleville around 3:55 p.m.
- Dearborn around 4 p.m.
- Taylor and Greenfield Village around 4:05 p.m.
- Flat Rock and Detroit around 4:10 p.m.
- Downtown Detroit, Wyandotte, and Trenton around 4:15 p.m.
- Belle Isle around 4:20 p.m.
- Other locations that might be affected include Melvindale, Gibraltar, New Boston, Rockwood, Harper Woods, Westland, Grosse Pointe Shores, Ecorse, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Woodhaven.
Oakland County
- Expired around 4:15 p.m. Thursday
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located at 3:35 p.m. Thursday over Milford. It was moving southeast at 55 mph.
This was a radar-indicated rotation.
The storm was expected to affect:
- Novi, South Lyon, Northville, and West Bloomfield around 3:40 p.m.
- Southfield around 3:45 p.m.
- Royal Oak and Birmingham around 3:50 p.m.
- The Detroit Zoo around 3:55 p.m.
- Other locations that could be affected include Franklin, Madison Heights, Orchard Lake, Clawson, Berkley, Oak Park, Commerce, New Hudson, Hazel Park, and Walled Lake
Macomb County
- Expired around 4:30 p.m. Thursday
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Birmingham, or near Southfield, moving southeast at 45 mph.
This was a radar-indicated rotation.
The storm is expected to affect:
- Warren and Sterling Heights around 4:05 p.m.
- St. Clair Shores and Clinton Township around 4:10 p.m.
- Other locations that could be affected include Center Line, Roseville, Fraser, Eastpointe, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Grosse Pointe Shores.
Washtenaw County
- Expired around 4:10 p.m. Thursday
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located at 3:32 p.m. Thursday over Hamburg. It was moving southeast at 60 mph.
This was a radar-indicated rotation.
The storm was expected to affect:
- Ann Arbor, Dexter, Dixboro, and Whitmore Lake around 3:35 p.m.
- Ypsilanti and Salem around 3:40 p.m.
- Willis around 3:50 p.m.
- Other locations that could be affected include Hudson Mills, Delhi Mills, Barton Hills, and Hudson Mills Metropark
Lenawee County
- Expired around 4:28 p.m. Thursday
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Tecumseh, moving east at 40 mph.
This was a radar-indicated rotation.
The storm was expected to affect:
- Tecumseh and Britton around 4 p.m.
- Deerfield around 4:05 p.m.
- Other locations that could be affected include Macon, Riga, Springville, Ridgeway, Palmyra, Tipton and Holloway.
Livingston County
- Expired around 3:45 p.m. Thursday
The initial warning was issued at 3:05 p.m. after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Fowlerville. This was a radar-indicated rotation.
Washtenaw and Oakland counties were added to the warning around 3:30 p.m.
At around 3:50 p.m., Wayne and Lenawee counties were added to the warning.
The storm that triggered the first tornado warning was moving southeast at 40 mph.
The storm was expected to affect:
- Hamburg, South Lyon, and Whitmore Lake around 3:35 p.m.
- Other locations that could be affected include Parkers Corners, Lakeland, Plainfield, Island Lake State Recreation Area, Chilson, Unadilla, Pinckney State Recreation Area, and Hell.
The tornado warning has expired for Livingston County.
Residents should take shelter
Flying debris is expected, so residents should seek shelter. Damage to mobile homes, roofs, trees, windows, and vehicles is possible.
Residents should move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you’re outside, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest available shelter.
