DETROIT – A Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.

Metro Detroit is bracing for the biggest snowfall of the season from Wednesday, Feb 12. Winter Weather advisories or warnings expected to be issued later Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The region’s more southern counties are expected to be under an advisory, while the rest of Metro Detroit could see Winter Storm Warnings.
Snow totals will vary, with Wayne, Washtenaw and Monroe counties are expected to receive slightly less accumulation due to possible sleet mixing in.
Current weather models predict 4-7 inches, with the heavier snowfall north of M-59.
Widespread school closures are possible on Thursday, Feb. 13, due to hazardous driving conditions.

Snowfall Estimates:
- Wayne, Oakland, and areas north: 4 to 7 inches
- Monroe and Lenawee counties: 3 to 5 inches
Timeline:
- 3-4 p.m. Wednesday: Light snow begins
- 4 p.m. Wednesday: Monroe County could see a possible mix of sleet and snow at first, changing to all snow by about 5 p.m.
- 6-7 p.m. Wednesday: Snowfall picks up significantly
- 2-3 a.m. Thursday: Heavy snow continues until early morning hours
- 7 a.m. Thursday: Snow tapers off as the system moves northeast

Another round of snow could bring a few more inches on Saturday, Feb. 15, but exact totals will be clearer after this first storm passes.
