DETROIT – In September of 2020, people were tired. We were six months into the pandemic and two months out from the Presidential Election. It was an unprecedented time where everyone was somehow both overwhelmed and indifferent. We needed a hero. We needed a distraction.
Enter: The 12-foot tall Home Depot Skeleton.
We don’t quite know when Home Depot introduced the product, but it went viral in September 2020. Much like toilet paper at the time, it was very difficult to purchase because stores often sold out of the massive Halloween decoration. People made fan art, memes, comics, songs and HOAs pretty angry. It rocked.
Many people kept their skeletons up all year and gave them props and clothing to fit other holidays. Home Depot also recommends this.
Four years later, it is still very difficult to purchase one of these bone behemoths due to how quickly they sell out.

“Dane,” you may be thinking, “It’s March. Why on earth are we talking about Halloween decorations eight months out?”
I know it’s a strange time to talk about Halloween before the leaves even started growing trees, but it’s topical because Home Depot just announced some of its upcoming Halloween decorations. Not only is the giant skeleton coming back, but a canine companion will join it. The dog is also massive and its ears are bones for some reason but it’s still a dog and I love it dearly.
The announcement also featured a few other decorations, such as a skeleton headless horseman (the horse is also a skeleton), an angry tree, a skeleton mobster and a pirate, but we all know the big news is that the iconic 12-foot tall Home Depot skeleton now has a best friend.
Cadaver Cody, Remains Rex, Clifford the Big Dead Dog, Benji Bones, Breathless Buster, Morbid Max -- you can have these names for free.
The home improvement retailer has not revealed the price of the new additions or when they will be available, just that they will be available later this year. I might go to a Home Depot at 5 a.m. to secure one of these departed doggos myself. I’ll see you there!
