As Black History Month comes to end, you can still experience the greatness of Black History through the vibrant spices and complex flavors of food being served in Detroit. Restauranteur and chef Max Hardy appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about the impact Black culture has had on Detroit’s culinary scene.
The story behind Black cuisine being so important to Hardy is because he says, “I get a chance to go back to Africa all the time, and see the culture, and see the food that inspired the cuisines all around the world.”
One food item he brought in, inspired by Black cuisine, was black eyed pea humus, which is inspired behind the good luck, wealth, and health, of the peas.
He also brought in his own twist of a collard greens salad with an avocado ranch dressing, and a curry inspired from the Caribbean.
