How much does social media impact your life?

Friends of “Live In The D” weigh in

Viral videos, social media influencers, likes, comments, shares, and the list goes on. These days, social media is a huge part of our daily lives, but does it ever feel like it’s too much?

Social media was the topic of conversation during What’s the Buzz on “Live In The D”. The conversation included host Tati Amare, guest host Jennyfer Crawford-Williams, along with digital content editor Jack Roskopp, and Vanessa Cohen, the co-founder of the Cohen brand and the creator of Motor City Date Night.

First, the group shared their favorite social media platforms. Jack said his favorites are X and Instagram. Meanwhile, Vanessa said that her go to is Facebook. However, Vanessa said she’s using LinkedIn more these days. Tati said she’s “obsessed” with TikTok.

Next, Tati asked the group if we’ve become too reliant on social media, and how their lives would change if social media didn’t exist. Tati said it would drastically change her life. Vanessa explained that every time something happens, she wonders what’s being said on social media.

Next, the group talked about the types of problems that social media can cause, such as friends realizing they’ve been left out of a get together. Vanessa said she thinks it enhances the levels of FOMO, or fear of missing out. “I don’t post when I’m somewhere,” Vanessa said. “I only post when I leave,” she added. Meanwhile, Jack said he’s always conscious about whether his friends who weren’t invited somewhere will see something shared on social media.
