Making a difference in Macomb County

This nonprofit organization offers a guiding light for those in need

Through the Go 4 It campaign, Local 4 is highlighting people and organizations that are making a difference in their communities. Samaritan House in Washington raises more than seventy thousand dollars a year for community members in need and has been serving Macomb County since 1995. Their mission is to relieve suffering, preserve dignity, and share love by addressing the needs of the community.

Executive director of Samaritan House, Kathy Wojcik, says their clientele ranges from single parents to the elderly to anyone that shows a need. Their primary function is a fully stocked pantry including canned goods, fresh food, meats and personal care items. She says it’s the efforts of businesses, sponsored churches, and individuals that keep the organization moving forward.

“The heart of Samaritan House is our volunteers because we could not do what we do without our volunteers. We have about 80 that rotate throughout the month, different shifts”

At any time of year, Samaritan House is fundraising or conducting a program in the community. Currently, they are holding a backpack drive for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. They plan to distribute 170 backpacks with school supplies and a sweatshirt included.

The Samaritan House also offers delivery to homebound clients, free tax preparation, a summer nutrition program and so much more.
