This holiday season you might be hitting the road to visit family, but what about your pets? Are they tagging along, or are they staying home? There’s a lot to consider, and Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D” to share helpful information about holiday travel and pets.
She said if you are flying with your pets, keep the following tips in mind.
- Connect with your veterinarian before traveling.
- Research the airlines pet policies.
- Help your pet get accustomed to their carrier.
- Have an emergency kit ready with medications, food, and other essentials.
- Make sure pets are up to date with their vaccinations.
- Give the pet a toy or long lasting crew, to keep them busy and calm.
She also said, for those planning to travel and leaving their pets at home, leave vaccination records, medicines, and emergency contacts with the pets caregivers.
Vesterfelt brought a puppy with her named Norman, who’s up for adoption. The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay standard adoption fees for todays pet of the week.
