A college located in Ann Arbor is driving the future of electric vehicles

The school uses real EVs in the classroom

The Detroit Auto Show is in full gear at Huntington Place and one of the stars this year are the electric vehicles. One of the vendors showing off something special there is Washtenaw Community College (WCC), who’s helping to drive the future of EV programs. The college, that’s based in Ann Arbor, has been a leader in educating and training workers for transportation and mobility jobs for a decade, with online and on-campus programs.

“In 2014 we made a commitment to the governor as well to our community, that we were going to be the leaders in advanced transportation,” Dr. Rose Bellanca, President of Washtenaw Community College said. The school uses hands on training for the students to learn all they can about EV’s, even having the vehicles there at the school.

“We have 11 EV’s including Teslas and Ford Lightnings,” Al Lecz, Director of WCC’s Advanced Transportations Center. He said once the students complete the program, and even sometimes before, they are in high demand for jobs.

WCC is currently enrolling students. For more information on enrolment and their course offerings, click here.
