Training your pet can feel like an overwhelming task, but experts say it doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D” to give some advice on where to start with dog training.
“Always make it a positive experience for them. You don’t ever want them to feel forced to do tricks. It’s meant to be a bonding time for you and your pet,” Vesterfelt said.
She also recommended the following when it comes to pet training.
- Start with basic tricks like, sit or speak
- Use food and other positive reinforcements while training
- Speak to your vet about training
