Stay warm on a chilly day at this Detroit take out spot

Long standing soup kitchen, debuts a new way to dine

We are in the thick of winter and during these cold temps a hot bowl of soup may be just what we need. There’s a place in Eastern Market that’s been serving up a variety of homemade fresh soups from original recipes, and it has become a staple in Shed 2 for years.

Now Freda’s Soup Kitchen is expanding, and the operators of the kitchen stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about it. “To all of our most supportive customers out there asking when are you going to open a brick and mortar, we finally have one at 1520 Adelaide,” said Drake Wilkins Jr. Operations Manager for Freda’s Soup and Kitchen.

He said the location, called Proof, serves as a take-out spot where customers can place an order up to 30 days in advance and pick up from their walk up window.

They will serve all the popular soups they’re known for as well as specialty sandwiches, wraps, paninis, and salads.

They are open now, Thursdays through Sundays, prior to their March 20 grand opening. After the opening their hours will be expanded.
