From competitions to educational opportunities

The weekend is almost here and if you’re looking for something to do in and around Detroit there are plenty of fun options.

First up, the New Baltimore Lions Club Winterfest kicks off today. Activities will take place throughout the weekend including a cornhole tournament, kids dance contest, a chili cook off, a polar plunge, and more. It’s all happening at the Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore.

How does a hot, steamy bowl of chili sound? There will be plenty this weekend in Northville during the annual Chili-In-The-Ville event. The city and township fire departments, along with restaurants in the area, will face off in a chili competition. In addition to enjoying different types of chili, guests can check out ice sculptures and other fun happenings. The event happens on Saturday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Northville.

Sticking with the food theme, restaurant week kicks off in downtown Lake Orion and Downtown Oxford. Participating restaurants along Main street will offer great meal deals all week long that include delicious dishes and craft beverages. The event runs through March 1.

Finally, listen up high school seniors and juniors, here’s an event for you. The 26th annual college and trade fair is happening on Saturday. Representatives from more than 50 national colleges and several trade schools will be on hand, providing insights into academic and vocational career paths, as well as scholarship info and more. The fair is happens at Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit, from 10 a.m. to 2p.m.
