Belle Isle training unites Coast Guard, Detroit police for water rescue preparation

DETROIT – You’ve seen the rescues, but have you ever wondered how they really pull that off?

Local 4 was given a behind-the-scenes look at how the U.S. Coast Guard and the Detroit Police Dive Team get prepared for saving lives on the water.

Boating and swimming season is right around the corner and the two agencies have partnered up to train together on Belle Isle. It’s part of an effort to help each agency work together better and improve communication during a rescue.

For those on the dive teams, it’s a chance to be better prepared to help the U.S. Coast Guard make a rescue and keep everyone safe while they do that.
