Assault, threats, fighting: Detroit triple murder suspect’s misconduct in prison

Suspect has lengthy list of prison misconduct charges

DETROIT – A man suspected in the murders of three people found inside a burned vehicle in Detroit has a prison record that includes more than 100 guilty verdicts for misconduct.

Edward Delorean Redding, 29, of Detroit, is a suspect in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend, her mother, and her 9-year-old niece. Their bodies were discovered the morning of Sunday, April 6, after a car fire was reported near the intersection of 30th and Milford streets in Detroit.

Police said Redding’s ex-girlfriend and her mother were shot, and the 9-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck before they were burned.

Redding was taken into custody on Monday, April 7. Since then, he has been charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and a weapons charge.

Suspect’s criminal history

When Redding was 14 years old, he was convicted of armed robbery, carjacking, and a weapons charge from an incident that happened on Sept. 13, 2010.

He was sentenced to between 11 and 22 years in prison on Feb. 3, 2011, and began serving time in prison the next day.

On July 19, 2022, after serving roughly 13 years, he was released on parole. On Oct. 3, 2022, He was returned to prison on a technical rule violation.

On July 9, 2024, he was released on parole again. He is currently back in custody and expected to appear in federal court on Thursday, April 2025, to discuss bond conditions.

He has not been charged in connection with the triple homicide in Detroit, but sources told Local 4 that he remains a suspect and the investigation is very active.

Misconduct charges in prison

During his time incarcerated, Redding was found guilty on 106 misconduct charges. The charges include assault, threatening behavior, fighting, destruction/misuse of property, insolence, and more.

There were eight incidents of assault, three of which involved staff, and five involved other inmates. An incident of assault from May 27, 2011, resulted in “serious physical injury” to a staff member.

He was found guilty of threatening behavior five times, fighting nine times, and destruction/misuse of property 15 times.
