YPSILANTI, Mich. – An emergency alert was issued by Eastern Michigan University on Tuesday afternoon after a report of a bomb threat.
The alert, listed as “critical,” just said an “emergency” was reported in Wise, Buell and Putnam. There was a second alert for an “emergency” in Walton, Phelps, Best, Dowing, Eateries and DC1.

“Please evacuate the building immediately. Use nearest exits and stairways.”
The university told Local 4 that the alert was triggered by a bomb threat.
Residence halls were being evacuated as police investigated.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that bomb threats were made for EMU and the Marriott at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti.
EMU police have completed the search of the three residence halls and said they found no evidence of a threat. Police said the other buildings in the second alert were included as a precaution.
Police confirmed no suspicious items were found and the campus returned to normal operations at about 2:45 p.m.
“Out of an abundance of caution, EMU Police responded quickly to the possible threat,” said EMU vice president for communications Walter Kraft. “The safety and security of our campus community is our number one priority. EMU Police worked quickly to help evacuate and search the buildings. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of our students who also responded quickly and efficiently to the evacuation notice, which helped police do their job in a timely fashion.
The bomb threat comes just days after the Marriot at Eagle Crest saw a bomb threat that evacuated the building on April 7.
