Thousands concerned about safety as balcony sways at Fox Theatre during rap performance

DETROIT – The balcony shaking at the Fox Theatre during rapper Gunna’s Detroit concert has gone viral as the theatre swayed to the beat of one of his smash hits.

The concert occurred Monday (May 6) night, and by the looks of the video posted by Gunna to his official Instagram page, thousands wondered if the sight was safe.

Ilitch Entertainment said the swaying was all part of the way the balcony was engineered.

“This capability is an integral part of the balcony’s structural engineering design. Regular inspections, most recently conducted in April, are completed to ensure the integrity and safety of the structure.”

Aiden Binder was sitting right below the balcony and said he trusted the venue for his safety.

“I trust them, and it was such a good experience that I would do it again,” said Binder.

The Fox Theatre has a seating capacity of about 5,000 and has been open since 1928 when it was first a movie theater.
