2 arrested in Macomb County with stolen IDs, credit cards, unregistered handgun

Both men charged with stealing personal information to commit identity theft

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two men are facing 10 felony charges and several misdemeanors after allegedly getting caught with stolen property in Macomb County.

According to authorities, deputies were dispatched to the Enclave Apartments in Washington Township on reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 9 a.m., May 14. The sheriff’s department said they made contact with Derek Russell, 26, and Dakwan Young, 24, who were reportedly in a car that smelled like marijuana.

Authorities said a search of the vehicle found multiple IDs, credit cards, gift cards and Social Security cards, an unregistered handgun, a credit card reader and suspected stolen property.

Russell and Young were taken into custody. Both were charged with one count of personal identifying information – obtain/possess/transfer with intent to commit identity theft, three counts of financial transaction device – stealing/retaining without consent, one count of receiving and concealing stolen property less than $200 and unlawful use of a license plate.

Russell’s bond was set at $10,000, cash/surety.

Young was also charged with one count of firearm possession by a prohibited person, one count of ammunition possession by a prohibited person and one count of purchase pistol without license. His bond was set at $20,000, cash surety.

Both men remain lodged at the Macomb County Jail.
